Confession

Sacrament of Reconciliation

God's Mercy, Always Within Reach

Confession, also known as the Sacrament of Reconciliation, is where we bring our failings honestly before God and receive His forgiveness through the priest. There is no sin too great, and no length of time too long, to keep you from this sacrament.

Why Go to Confession?

Peace of Mind

Confession offers a real, tangible experience of God's mercy and a fresh start.

A Conversation, Not a Test

The priest is there to help, not to judge. There's no wrong way to approach it.

Complete Confidentiality

Everything shared in confession is protected absolutely under the Seal of Confession.

Making a Good Confession

If it's been a while, here's a simple guide to what happens.

  1. Examine Your Conscience

Take a few quiet moments beforehand to reflect honestly on your thoughts, words and actions.

  2. Confess Your Sins

Speak openly with the priest, either face to face or behind the screen, whichever you prefer.

  3. Receive Absolution

The priest offers guidance, gives a penance, and absolves you in the name of Christ.

  4. Complete Your Penance

Carry out the penance given, often a prayer, as a small act of gratitude for God's mercy.

Common Questions

How long has it been since my last confession? Does that matter?

Not at all. However long it has been, you're welcome. The priest will happily guide you through it if you're out of practice.

Can I confess face to face?

Yes. You may choose to sit face to face with the priest or remain behind the screen — whichever helps you feel more at ease.

What if I can't make the scheduled times?

Contact the parish office to arrange an appointment with one of the priests at a time that suits you.

Come As You Are

No appointment is needed for our regular Saturday times — just come along. For any other time, get in touch with the parish.
